
MULTIMEDIA

    With the new computing power of today's systems it is no problem any more
    to make multimedia - the magic keyword of last year - at home. 
    Multimedia is the generic term for all the medias like audio, video, 
    photos or documents. You can use all this medias on linux.

  VIDEO:
    xanim		- XAnim is the oldest video player for X11. It's 
			  controlled from the command line and
			  plays most avi, some mov (QuickTime) and mpeg files
    oms, omi		- OMS, the Open Media System is a new project to create
			  a free open source media player. With its GTK+ GUI
			  called OMI (Open Media Interface) it will be once a
			  full-featured system. It can play all kind of movies
			  and DVDs supported by the installed libs 
			  (like avifile), but doesn't support DVD-menues.
			  Currently it is under heavy development.
    xine		- Xine is another project to create a movie player with
			  cineastic feeling. It handles all kind of movies
			  and DVDs supported by the installed libs and (windows)
			  DLLs and supports XFree's XVideo extensions with
			  fullscreen mode, but no menues.
    xmms		- the X MultiMedia System started once as a WinAmp 
			  clone but is now extended to a full-featured 
			  player with many input-, output- and FX plugins. 
			  Two of them delivered by dRock are xmms-avi and
			  xmms-crossfade. Default ones play MP3 and CDDA.

  TV:
    xawtv		- XawTV lets you watch TV on your computer.
    vcr			- VCR is more a hard disk recorder than a video cassette
			  recorder. It grabs from your TV card and stores the
			  stream in avi or mpeg format.

  AUDIO:
    gamix		- An ALSA mixer for GNOME

  MISC:
    gphone		- GNOME frontend for Voice-Over-IP telephoning
    gphoto		- A GNOME application to fetch and manage photos from 
			  your digital photo camera.
