++20001007++ ROCK Read-Only Linux

The latest ROCK Linux 1.3.11 development snapshots contain a Read-Only
Subdistribution which makes it possible to run ROCK Linux from CD-ROMs
or any other read-only media. This might be usefull for surfstations,
set-top-boxes and other cool things. The new ROCK Router Linux with full
ISDN support and some other new features will also be based on that work.

++20001003++ We are close to ROCK Linux 1.3.11

We are comming closer to ROCK Linux 1.3.11. The final code-freeze will start
within the next two weeks. Now we are fixing the broken packages on Alpha and
PowerPC, check if all the subdistributions are still working and fix the
remaining bugs in the base and extension packages. Beta-Testers are welcome.

++20000813++ Boost for ROCK on PowerPC: IBM sponsored an RS/6000 box

<A HREF="http://www.ibm.com/">IBM</A> sponsored an <A
HREF="http://www.rs6000.ibm.com/hardware/enterprise/b50.html">RS/6000 B50</A>
box for the PowerPC port of ROCK Linux. After spending some hours with
patching the Linux kernel, playing with the OpenFirmware prompt and
cross-building the rescue system, I'm now doing a complete rebuild of <A
HREF="http://www.rocklinux.org/projects/powerpc/powerpc.html">ROCK
Linux for PowerPC</A> on that box. Expect a fist binary distribution (rescue
system for building the rest yourself) within the next weeks. <SMALL>[<A

++20000717++ ROCK Linux Bugzilla bug tracking system.

ROCK Linux got a Bugzilla installation as bug tracking system. It can be
found at <A HREF="http://www.rocklinux.org/bugzilla/"
>http://www.rocklinux.org/bugzilla/</A>. From now - please submit bugs and
patches to the bugzilla system and not to the mailing list. Only send your
patches to the list if it's something we need to discuss.

++20000526++ ROCK at the SANE 2000 Conference

I've been on the  <A HREF="http://www.nluug.nl/events/sane2000/index.html"
>SANE 2000</A> Conference in Maastrich from 05/22 to 05/25/2000 and did a
ROCK Linux BoF there. There was an <A
HREF="http://e-zine.nluug.nl/sane_issue.html?day=Thursday">article</A> in the
4th issue of the <A HREF="http://e-zine.nluug.nl/hold.html?cid=105">SANE
Times</A> (the official conference bulletin) about it. They called it the
longest BoF of the conference because it started Wednesday at 4pm and
finished Thursday at 12pm (of course with some brakes :-).

++20000408++ Subdistributions: Router and Telnet Terminal

The latest snapshot contains the first working version of the new ROCK
Router Linux. Only the base features have been implemented yet. Modules
like iptables and QoS are currently missing but will follow soon. The
snapshot also contains the first version of the ROCK Telnet Terminal. A
small system which fits on a floppy and can auto-detect it's IP-Address
using bootp or rarp and open some telnet sessions to a hardcoded server ip.

Two new articles has been published at the European Unix Platform
(EUP) - <A HREF="http://e-zine.nluug.nl/">e-zine</A>. It's "<A

much more cool stuff. Have a look at the <A

++20000310++ Added Automated System Setup

I've finished a set of major changes to the install disks. That also includes
a hook for full automated script based setups. I've added an example
which automatically detects the first disk (ide or scsi), creates some
partitions on it, installs ROCK Linux and does the entire system setup.
No interaction with the user is needed for such a script based setup.

++20000116++ Added Rescue Subdistribution

I wrote a subdistribution for minimal rescue systems (less than 150 MB) which
contain everything what could be usefull when repairing a system - including
a C compiler. The rescue system can also be used to (re)build the complete
ROCK Linux distribution.

We ported the ROCK Linux Core at the <A HREF="http://www.ccc.de/congress/"
